Dear Recruiter’s Coach,

I’m 2 years old in the Recruitment industry, started my career with loads of Zeal & Enthusiasm, and learned a lot in my present organization.

Off late I begun to notice lot of issues in my organization, Starts from the top mgmt, to my manager… lot of things changing, not much to work on.. I feel I should explore other areas of HR too, like Generalist role. I want to quit from here take a break and hunt for a new job.

Will be the right solution to this problem of discontentment & poor performance?

Dear Cross Roads,

It is not unusual that at 2 years in the recruiting industry you are starting to face these issues. At this time in your career you need to decide if you really like recruiting or not. Taking a vacation to decide might give you the time. You need to make up your mind rather than throwing all that experience away by quitting.   

If you decide you like recruiting then stay where you are just until you have three years of experience.  Then look for a Recruitment agency.  Just know all Recruiting Houses have some level of dysfunction 😉 and are tough places to work.  It all comes down to whether or not you’re fairly compensated and if you are hitting your numbers.  If you are, I suggest you ignore the company politics, focus on your job and leave your work in the office. 

If of course you don’t like recruiting – get out now.  The longer you wait the harder it will be to leave later.  Also, trying to get into HR through recruiting is not really an option.  I think it’s an urban myth that a Recruiter ever really becomes a true HR person.  I would try looking at some of the new social media jobs coming up.  A Recruiter’s ability to connect with people via LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc and the inherent relationship skills each recruiter possesses is a nice match for one of these positions.

    I have 2 years of experience in Recruitment Industry and I am very much enthusiastic for the same. As I am getting work done and my Boss too appreciates it…
    But, at personal front I have many financial challenges to the extent my income falls short of my basic expanses.
    I have an Electronic Engineering Degree with Diploma and had pursued by working in BPO’s and taking tuition, hence had not scored much to get a campus placement.
    I want to know, how can I shape my career in Recruitment Industry along with financial stability and what are future opportunities in same…
